Tetris Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
